Fisting and inserting large sex toys in your ass

Make sure to not damage your ass

  • Fisting means inserting a whole hand in your ass

  • Another term for this is fist fucking

  • It can feel very nice and intimate

  • But it can damage your rectum and anus. This can also happen if you use a large sex toy

  • Do it carefully. And talk to each other

How does fisting work

How does fisting work?

It’s important that you know how to carefully insert a hand in the ass. This lowers the chances of damage. This is what you should do:

  • Make sure your anus is completely empty. To do this, you can douche. Read more about anal douching

  • Use a rubber (latex) glove or condom. This way, no dirt from your hand will enter the anus

  • Use A LOT of lube. Do you use rubber gloves? Then you should use silicone-based lube. Read more about lube. It’s better not to use oil or grease, like cooking grease Crisco. Those substances make latex gloves break. Do you want to use oil or grease anyway? Then use gloves that can handle it.

  • If you’re the fister: start with 1 finger and slowly add more, one by one. Don’t move your fingers around too much in the anus. This will help your partner relax

  • Is the hand going in your ass? Take a deep breath and breathe out the moment the first finger enters your anus

  • Talk to each other: check if your partner is in pain, keep asking if it feels good, keep eye contact

  • Keep the inserted fingers extended and close together, it’s less intense. You shouldn’t really put them in a fist

  • Do you use sex toys? Start from the smaller sizes and work your way up to the larger ones

  • Are you unable to take the whole hand or toy? Don’t be frustrated. It’s all about the feeling of being completely filled up

  • Pain or blood? Stop immediately. If you’re in a lot of pain or there’s a lot of blood you should probably go to the hospital

  • Enjoy the feeling of being able to do this with each other

Symptoms

Which symptoms can be caused by fisting?

Is a hand or some large object being inserted in your ass? Then something could be damaged, on or inside your anus. You could get these symptoms:

  • Tears in your anus

  • Hemorrhoids

  • Part of your rectum could pop out of your anus

  • Rarely: tummy ache with fever

Anal tears or hemorrhoids

Is there a tear in your anus? Or do you have hemorrhoids? These are the symptoms:

  • Pain during a poo

  • Anal bleeding. Usually only during a poo

  • Itch around your anus, especially after taking a poo

In some cases, hemorrhoids can be seen outside your anus by using a mirror.

Your rectum pops out

Sometimes, part of your rectum could pop out of your anus. This is called a prolapse.

Usually this symptom goes away on its own after a couple of days. But you should gently push it back inside. Before doing that, wash your hands thoroughly with soap. Is a big chunk of your rectum coming out, or are you unable to recover? Then go see your GP. In some cases, an operation is necessary.

Fever or tummy ache

Were you recently fisted and are you experiencing a (strong) tummy ache, cramps and/or a high fever? Then go to the ER at the hospital immediately. You could have peritonitis. This is dangerous. It can be deadly.

Other symptoms of peritonitis are:

  • Feeling out of it

  • Anal bleeding

  • Swollen tummy

Can fisting stretch out your anus?

Yes, but only temporarily. Usually it goes back to normal afterwards. Do you get fisted often or for a long time? Then your anus could get a little looser. But you don’t need to worry about it staying open.

Preventing symptoms

How can you prevent damage to your anus?

Your anus and bowels can easily be damaged when you take a fist in your ass. Or when you insert large sex toys. This is what you can do to keep risk to a minimum:

  • Take a hand slowly. Use a lot of lube. Read more about lube

  • If you’re the top: keep your nails short and filed

  • Don’t wear rings or bracelets

  • Don’t use objects that spin or vibrate fast. Use toys that are made specifically for anal use

  • Don’t move your hand too quickly or roughly

  • Do you use drugs? Then you might go too far with fisting. Don’t take (too much) drugs, when you are fisting or being fisted. Is the hand going in your ass? You won’t feel pain as much
    • Are you inserting your hand in someone’s ass? Then you might not always notice that you’re going too far
    • Are you inserting your hand in someone’s ass? Then you might not always notice that you’re going too far

Preventing STDs

How can you prevent getting STDs during fisting?

Fisting can raise the chance of getting HIV or other STDs. Even if you’re the top.

This is how you can avoid getting STDs:

  • Wear gloves when you're fisting

  • Never fist different partners with the same glove. Use a new, clean glove for each person

  • Use a separate jar or tube of lube for each person. Don’t use the same container for another person

  • Get a shot against hepatitis A and B. Read more about the hepatitis vaccinations

  • Wash your hands and forearms thoroughly with water and soap
