Usually men don’t get any symptoms. As a result, you could have the STD and pass it on without even knowing. Therefore it’s important to use a condom and have safer sex. Then the chances of getting trichomonas get lower.

Symptoms

What are the symptoms of trichomonas?

Mostly, trichomonas will not cause symptoms. Symptoms you could have:

  • Inflamed glans (the tip of your penis); red, irritated skin
  • Pain while peeing
  • Liquid discharge from your penis

Other symptoms?

Do you have other symptoms? They could be caused by something else. So it’s important to go to your GP or to the GGD. Don’t wait too long and make an appointment.

Sometimes you can get tested to check for trichomonas. To do this, you need to give a pee sample. Usually, you will get your result within a week.

Treating trichomonas

Usually trichomonas heals on its own. You don’t need to take medication for it. Do you have symptoms? Then you can get medication from your GP. 

Do you still have symptoms after taking the medication? Then get a new appointment with your doctor or GP.

Prevention

Preventing trichomonas

Using condoms is usually enough to avoid trichomonas. They will also prevent you from passing it on.
