The cheapest way to get PrEP is through the GGD. All necessary check-ups and tests will be done every 6 months for free by the GGD. You pay the pills yourself. You buy them at a pharmacy using the recipe you get from the GGD.
Sadly, the waiting lists at the GGD are full. Sometimes a spot comes free. Ask the GGD what is possible for you.
After the first check-up, your GP gives you a prescription to pick up the medication at the pharmacy. Your GP tests you every 6 months on STDs and HIV. Your GP also checks if your kidneyfunction is still good every year.
The check-ups and consultations with your GP will be paid out of your health insurance. That will be deducted from your 'own risk' (eigen risico). After that amount, you don't have to pay anymore. You do pay for the pills yourself.
The cost of the pills vary from €16.95 per month to more than €60 per month. The price difference is because pharmacies ask different prices for PrEP and buy from different manufacturers.
You don't have to buy PrEP at your designated pharmacy. Talk to your GP about getting PrEP from a different pharmacy, if it is cheaper to get it there. PrEPnu keeps up a price list.
Not all GPs give a prescription or check-ups for PrEP. Can your GP not help you? Or does your GP not want to help you? Ask if they can refer you (via Zorgdomein) to another GP. With that, you can go to another GP who can help you. You can also ask the GGD for advice.
With a referral from your own GP, you can go to another GP for PrEP. It is possible to go to this GP only for your PrEP-care. At the GP you pay the STD tests out of your own risk ('eigen risico'). After that, they will be payed by your health insurance. You always pay for the pills yourself. How much you pay depends on the pharmacy that you choose.
Attention: by far not all GPs who prescribe PrEP are on this list. Always try first at your current GP.
You can get PrEP-care through an online GP. Your own GP gives you a referral for that. You only go to this online doctor for the PrEP, check-ups and STD tests. You stay registered at your current GP. You pay the STD tests out of your own risk ('eigen risico'). If you payed that off, your tests will be payed by your health insurance. At the online GP you pay for your pills yourself. How much you pay, depends on the pharmacy you choose to go to.
